A new RTO plant will reduce the prepress company's CO₂ emissions by around 25% compared to the previous setup.

On July 1, 2025, ECO3, a global supplier of prepress and printing products to the graphic arts industry, celebrated important milestones in the construction of a new RTO (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer) plant for thermal exhaust gas purification at its facility in Wiesbaden, Germany. The event included ECO3’s workforce and selected business partners, including representatives of the industrial park operator, InfraServ Wiesbaden (ISW), and its subsidiary, ISW Technik, both of which are strategic partners in the project’s realization.
Christian Tebroke, CEO of ECO3, described the investment of around EUR 3 million as a “clear signal for the strengthening of ECO3 production in Wiesbaden, which is an essential part of the global production network of ECO3 and thus of our medium-term strategy.”
Marcus Kraus, Managing Director of the Wiesbaden ECO3 site, added that the new RTO plant would “make a contribution to ECO3’s sustainability thanks to state-of-the-art technologies.”
Jörg Kreutzer, Managing Director of ISW, said that supplying the new plant with steam energy would bring “advantages not only for ECO3, but for the entire site in terms of efficiency and sustainability.”
The construction work is in full swing. Commissioning is planned for the end of 2025.The new RTO plant, with a 26-meter high exhaust air stack, will replace an outdated thermal afterburning system and marks a vital step in reducing the environmental impact of the print industry.
RTO stands for Regenerative Thermal Oxidation, a high-efficiency air purification process designed to treat exhaust gases generated during production. If left untreated, VOCs contribute to air pollution and might pose health and safety risks. These pollutants are destroyed at high temperatures and the heat is reused, making the system highly energy-efficient.
With this new installation, ECO3 will reduce CO₂ emissions by around 25% compared to the previous setup. This is a major contribution to its climate goals and supports cleaner, more sustainable operations across the print industry.
